What Do We Do? PARTNERING WITH ORCA
ORCA is a Peruvian NGO that consists of dedicated young veterinarians and students committed to making a difference. They monitor the shoreline for stranded marine mammals, working to save the sick and injured and performing necropsies on those who have died. They work in Lima and outlying towns and villages to raise awareness of ocean issues, host international student volunteers, organize beach clean-ups, meet with government agencies to educate officials, and lobby for beaches to be set aside as national preserves. Everyone is an unpaid volunteer.
In December, 2005, ORCA joined with Turning the Tides:
- to exchange students and other volunteers
- to develop joint workshops and camps
- to organize Pacific Rim internet concerts to raise awareness of ocean issues.
